1. Typing Do not type LiKe ThIs oR LiEk DiS. People cannot understand what you are saying! Type normally, try to spell correctly and use proper grammar. People don't want to read something they can't understand, or if it sounds juvenile.

2. Naming When choosing a name for your website, try and choose something unique, but not innapropriate. It shouldn't be too long or be hard to remember. For example, x0xo-I-luv-rainbowz-x0x0 is probably not a good site name. People will not remember it, nor will they try to. Try to stay away from 'xo' and numbers.

3. Borders, etc. Every page should have a border and a custom scrollbar that match nicely with your layout. You shouldn't have a red border with a yellow scrollbar and a black and blue layout. It should all match. Don't use flashing scrollbars, they are very tacky and distracting.

4. Content The main reason why people visit sites is for the visitor content. Therefore, to attract visitors, this is your most important part. If you know how to make layouts and graphics yourself, all the more power to you--visitors will love that. Make sure your content is neat and organized and updated often, so people will come back for more.

5. Originality is in... don't copy someone's site. Why would people go to a site that is a duplicate of a site they've already been to? Put your own ideas into your site, and that's what people will like. I know what I look for when I go to websites, is something I've never seen before. Something that makes me say, "Oh, wow, that's really cool."

6. Give credit where credit is due Pretty self-explanatory. You can get ideas from other sites, but make sure you give credit. You don't want people writing hate messages in your guestbook saying that you stole their ideas. You didn't come up with the idea, so give credit. You should also give credit to where you got pictures from, layouts, backgrounds, etc. All those things are copyrighted on the internet.

7. Be respectful If people take the time to come to your website and sign your guestbook, the least you can do is do the same. Even if you don't sign anything, at least take a look. Maybe you'll be surprised!
